Apparently this was on display last year at the Detroit auto show. Just randomly stumbled across it. It’s cool that they have a working prototype, I’d love to see some more crazy engines.

It sounds like crap though, hopefully due to a cobbled together exhaust.

Almost 500lbs of torque from a 2.7 and huge efficiency claims. I wonder what the catch is.

If Mazda can do their  diesel acting gas engine why can’t anyone adopt this engine? I’m thinking there’s a catch.

So unds like a 3-cyl  opposed piston two stroke... Oddly enough....

It may only have a cylinder displacement of 2.7l, but being an opposed-piston two-stroke, it is big and bulky. These guys get credit for making it WAY lighter and really maxing out the potential gains of that combustion cycle and piston arrangement, but it’s phyisically very large. The design is also inherently very difficult to repair without removing it from the engine bay. Maintenance costs and weight were what really did in the Commer trucks, they were good engines, but hard to work on.
